Additional Trivia:

I mimicked the opening/title screen from Super Mario Bros. 3 as closely as possible, even including the Mario Tanooki shadow behind the 3.

As for the background itself, I originally planned to make it very much like the NES version's background, but I found it looked really plain and dull. So I based it on the SNES "All-Stars" version which is a lot more detailed.

The minions in this episode are the Pyranha Plants. We purposely avoided the Goombas and Koopa Troopers since they have been used in so many parodies already, yet the plants don't often feature (perhaps due to being trapped in a pipe).

The badger has hijacked Lakitu's cloud.

The Church of Ecular Futurasions comes from an old sketch we had written before (entirely separate to the Minions series), where they was a cult essentially run by a lazy university student (a play on the cliche of students getting roped into cults). It's name comes from a mash of Economy-Popular Future-Generations.

The cough made by the green plant (voiced by me) is actually Mark's cough. In the original script, the pause was longer, and would alternate between the green and red plant for a while, then Mark's character would awkwardly cough, eventually leading to Mark's next line. I felt this dragged on for too long and so shortened it. Since it's more common for the green plants to spit fireballs, this meant had this gone as originally planned, I would've been the red plant and Mark would've been green.

Included in the green plant's party outfit is a medallion with a cannabis leaf on it.

The music in the easter egg is a remix of the warp whistle song from Super Mario Bros. 3.
